What is Curiosity?

Unit 4, Lesson 1, “What is Curiosity?” introduces the spelling and definition of the word curiosity. Students will learn examples of curiosity, provided by the accompanying video. Additionally, students will practice the correct spelling of curiosity, demonstrate comprehension through a pictorial demonstration, and practice conversation skills by sharing their illustrations with a partner.

Write curiosity on the board and prompt students to write it on their worksheets. Play the video What does it mean to be curious? by Builders Movement (~3 min) Give an example of curiosity (e.g., I am curious about how airplanes fly.) Write three sentences on the board and ask students which one shows curiosity: 1. I do not want to learn anything new. 2. I want to learn about how cars work. 3. I know all the things I need to know. Ask students to draw a picture on their worksheet of how they have shown curiosity. Have students share their pictures with a partner. EXTENSION ACTIVITIES Talk with your students about times that you have seen examples of people demonstrating curiosity. You can give examples of family, friends, and/or historical or current public figures. Talk with your students about times in your life that you have demonstrated curiosity, despite hardships.
