Unit 4, Lesson 3, “Learning Curiosity from a Nonfiction Text,” reinforces the vocabulary word curiosity. Students will learn examples of curiosity from a nonfiction text by listening to a read aloud. Also, students will develop their reading skills by reading the text aloud to a partner. Finally, students will practice their writing skills by copying a sentence about curiosity.

SUGGESTED TIME:

20 minutes

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Listen to a read aloud to reinforce understanding of English sentence structure, syntax, and grammar
  • Spell, define, and give an example of curiosity
  • Correctly copy a sentence about curiosity
  • Demonstrate understanding of standard English sentence structure and grammar in writing and speaking 
  • Practice reading and conversation skills by sharing sentences with classmate

LESSON PROCEDURE

  1. Write curiosity on the board.
  2. Ask students to spell curiosity on their worksheets.
  3. Read the nonfiction text on the worksheet.
  4. Ask students what is the main topic of the text.
  5. Ask students what are the key details of the text.
  6. Ask students what is the relationship between curiosity, cars, sky, and cake in the text. 
  7. Have students take turns reading the nonfiction text to a partner. 
  8. Have students copy the sentence on their worksheets.
