Unit 3, Lesson 3, “Learning Gratitude from a Nonfiction Text,” reinforces the vocabulary word gratitude. Students will learn examples of gratitude from a nonfiction text by listening to a read aloud. Also, students will develop their reading skills by reading the text aloud to a partner. Finally, students will practice their writing skills by copying a sentence about gratitude.

  • Correctly copy a sentence about gratitude

  • Practice reading and conversation skills by sharing sentences with classmates

LESSON PROCEDURE

  1. Write gratitude on the board.
  2. Ask students to spell gratitude on their worksheet.
  3. Read the nonfiction text on the worksheet.
  4. Ask students what is the main topic of the text.
  5. Ask students what are the key details of the text.
  6. Ask students what is the relationship between gratitude, food, water, school, and teacher in the text. 
  7. Have students take turns reading the nonfiction text to a partner. 
  8. Have students copy the sentence on the worksheet.
