Unit 1, Lesson 3, “Learning Optimism from a Nonfiction Text,” reinforces the vocabulary word optimism. Students will learn the correct spelling of optimism, its definition, and examples from a nonfiction text. Finally, students will practice spelling optimism and copying a sentence about the topic.

SUGGESTED TIME:

20 minutes

  • Listen to a read aloud to reinforce understanding of English sentence structure, syntax, and grammar
  • Spell, define, and give an example of optimism
  • Compose a sentence using the correct letters
  • Demonstrate understanding of standard English sentence structure and grammar in writing and speaking 
  • Practice reading and conversation skills by sharing sentences with classmates

LESSON PROCEDURE

  1. Read the nonfiction text on the worksheet.
  2. Have students take turns reading the nonfiction text to a partner. 
  3. Have students copy the sentence on their worksheets.
