Bion Bartning is an entrepreneur, investor, writer, and co-founder and Board President of the Prohuman Foundation.

The son of a Jewish mother and a Mexican and Yaqui father, Bion grew up understanding that identity is complex and that no person can be reduced to the groups to which they belong. His wife, Marina, came to North America as a refugee from the former Soviet Union. His family’s experiences helped shape Bion’s belief in the importance of seeing every person as a unique individual, united by our shared humanity.

Bion’s civic work is driven by a concern about rising tribalism and dehumanization across our political and cultural divides—and by an optimism that people can overcome these forces. He believes that a healthy pluralistic society requires us to protect individual dignity and civil rights, engage honestly across our differences, and recognize the humanity in people with whom we may profoundly disagree.

Bion is the founder of Basis Built, a residential real estate development and homebuilding company. Previously, he founded FAIR, the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism, where he served for two years as its full-time volunteer CEO. He also co-founded and led the launch of eos Products, the personal care brand best known for its iconic egg-shaped lip balm. Earlier in his career, Bion conceived and patented a new multi-channel system for booking travel and led the launch of American Express’ new consumer online travel business as Director of New Product Development.

Bion’s writing explores questions of identity, belonging, polarization, and how we can live together and thrive across our differences.

Bion earned his MBA from Columbia Business School and graduated magna cum laude from Occidental College with a degree in economics and environmental studies. He lives in Miami with Marina and their two children.
